I worked at home on Friday, thinking that I’d have time to get through some of the phone calls & address changes I have to make. However, best laid plans… Even when I’m at home, the concalls keep coming, and then I had to take JL back to the vet. As soon as he saw the carrier, he made a beeline for the shoe cubby upstairs. As I ran up behind him, all I could see were the tocks disappearing behind the curtain :) Nevertheless, we got there and his weight is up (good) but he still has digestion problems (bad) and some weird nodules on his ears, which may be allergies. Of course I would get a cat with allergies… We made it out unscathed, though and I have to up his insulin a bit, so we’ll see how it goes. After that, it was a book and some scotch for me.
Saturday, I ordered my cork flooring for the new kitchen! Hard to describe. I decide the natural colour was gonna clash with the hardwood – just far enough off the colour to be distracting, so I chose this cool colour that is called Amazon, that is mostly brown but with green-grey depending on how you look at it. Something like this (but you can’t see the highlights):

Anyway, I’m very excited about it and can’t wait to see what it looks like once it’s down. I also found a set of drawers for the bathroom, since there isn’t much in the way of storage (i.e. no vanity) in it currently. Then I went over to the LCBO to steal more boxen.
Came back and did some more packing. I uncovered a box in the basement that held the sum total of my teaching materials from, oh, 9 years ago. I was a very good teacher, I must say. The number of teaching aids and materials was pretty awesome, never mind the fact that my test questions look to have been done on a … typewriter. Although I think I was using my computer, it’s just that we hadn’t progressed too far in the wide world of fonts by then. The box had been on the floor since I moved here, so about 7 years. In that time, an entire ecosystem had developed on its underside – can mold produced its own dirt? It looks more like worm castings than anything else. Whatever, I had to do the icky dance and then I dispensed of the box outside. I’ve bundled up all of the papers for recycling as well, signifying the final final end to my life as an English teacher, I suppose. There’s just no way I’m moving a box of stuff that I haven’t opened in 7 years :)
Saturday night, I took out friend B for his birthday dinner, and enjoyed some chicken and shrimp and wine. But due to the teacher box, I had taken an allergy pill earlier and so I entered a dopey phase soon after that. He’s a good pirate. Still managed to get the painting done in the living room to cover up the picture holes I plastered last week.
Took me 3.5 HOURS on Sunday to clean up my work Inbox. Thank goodness there was cheesy tv programming to divert me. Then I did the usual workout, and some more packing and ran some errands and some more packing. And then Melle, who is also a good pirate, dropped by with even more boxen that she had pilfered at LCBOs other than the one that I keep hitting. My plan to hide the total number I’ve taken is working nicely, though both of us may have pictures displayed in the staff rooms by now (known box hog).
Got some more work work done, and sorted out some of the sideboard papers. Every time I pitch stuff, I feel lighter (and my family will thank me as well, since there’s less to move).
Not an exciting weekend, but a productive one?
