tv, talking and technology

So, Dollhouse in an odd-even mode. Even is good, odd is bad. Overall, the ep had some good tension, but I’ve come to the conclusion that ED is a big part of why I’m ambivalent about it, that and the missing Jossness. In fact, we were discussing it at dinner tonight and Melle and Melissa and I agree that if Sierra were Echo, the show would be a lot stronger. I’ll see it through to the end, but bets are that’ll be sooner rather than later.

If you are looking for a job, probably not a good idea to call the hiring manager repeatedly if she tells you that there is an HR process to be followed. I know there was probably some article that said it was good to show you’re keen and track her/him down and then phone about the job to show your interest, but this manager? Just ticked off.

Went to Zeller’s today to buy an iron and an ironing board. This might be a late stage in life to embrace the whole “ironing” culture, but it was getting rather tedious bringing all of my cotton goods into the bathroom with me when I showered. Anyway, what I really meant to tell you about was that there was an impromptu islands convention going on there or something. People of all ages all talking with this amazing lilt (I don’t think it was Jamaican, but something close to it)… in the aisles and even blocking traffic outside of the store. I was trying to fathom how they all knew each other. And all the chatter was really quite lovely.

My library has gone all high tech and it’s freaking me out. They don’t even put the little cards in the pockets at the front of the books anymore. There’s some ninja technology flat pad on the counter and they put all the books on it and the computer automagically reads the bar codes or nannites or something. Then you get a slip like a grocery receipt that tells you what you have and when it’s due. I find it all disconcerting. I’m a luddite when it comes to libraries. I want a date stamp, dammit!

I’ve noticed that while a number of women seem to feel “ambivalent” of ED, a lot of (straight) guys seem to like her. Gee, I wonder why :-).

Speaking of good TV that has a certain Joss feeling to it, even though it isn’t writing by Joss; check out Castle. The new series staring Nathan Fillion of Firefly fame.

Well, I’m not saying she doesn’t have her attractions, but more like she’s a one-note wonder (and it just so happens that note is very appealing to straight guys ;)

I like Castle a lot. It was better than I thought – Nathan has charm to spare, though, so I guess we shouldn’t be surprised.
