And the new executive director is…

Neil Turok.

He was pretty engaging when he spoke at a public lecture here and this really is a coup in the international physics community. The announcement event at Perimeter was a pretty big deal. Felicitations came in from the likes of Stephen Hawking (a buddy of his), so you know Waterloo is on the map now.

Turok also used his speech to take a jab at the way that the Brits hand out research grants these days, and I’m sure that it was a factor in his acceptance.

Regardless, we’re looking forward to his arrival in October.
