George Carlin died

I’m a little surprised at how many people paid tribute on the Interwebs – blog posts and tweets and profiles. One always hopes he knew how many like him.

The thing with Carlin was that he made it his job to take the hot air out of us and he used swearing as an effective weapon against hyperbole, business speak and government prevarication. He was a very smart man, and his ear for language made his comedy biting and intelligent.

I know most people are focused on the 7 words, but here’s another look at why language pissed off George Carlin:

So he died. He didn’t pass away or expire. But he leaves us with lots of laughs and a healthy dose of “think for yourself”.

Kind of explains library funding…
